Internationally recognized sound artist Maria Chavez is here doing a 10 day residency at the Field Center in Vermont, and has generously offered to come teach a workshop at 10 Forward on Monday evening. Come, bring vinyl that can be broken (visit @johndoejrrecords in greenfield for dollar records!) and get ready for a singular experience. $25 workshop fee, or $20 if you’ve attended/hosted previous open decks workshops at 10F. “Maria Chavez @chavezsayz is an improviser, curator and sound artist from Lima, Peru. Her sound installations, visual objects and live turntable performances focus on the values of the accident and its unique, complicated possibilities with sound emitting machinery like the turntable. Influenced by improvisation in contemporary art, her work expands outside of the sound world straddling different disciplines of interest. The sound installations and live turntable performances of Maria Chavez focus on the paradox of time and the present moment, with many influences stemming from improvisation in contemporary art.” Big thanks to @_thefieldcenter @jakemessinameginsky @orangutan.nest @p.u.s.s.y.v.i.s.i.o.n @tinygentlemanclown and @__hedone___ for making this workshop a reality! Hope to see you there 💫
