Freedom shines through in Doll Spirit Vessel’s debut; they refuse to adhere to any one sound or genre, letting each song become what it wants to be. Take “Sun Death,” the sing-along anthem about breakups and the end of our solar system or “All the Right Things...,” an odyssey through grunge, dream-pop and prog-rock. The effect of their cross-disciplinary sound is anything but disjointing– it serves to highlight what the songs have in common: Malison’s masterful melodies and vivid lyricism, and the exacting, acrobatic voice she wields to bring them together.
