:: About The Post-Elevator Tour ::
Los Angeles-based artist/writers emji saint spero and jeremy kennedy present The Post-Elevator Tour, an extended release formula of reading/performance events representing the release of their respective new books disgust and A Gamble in this Dress.
This installation of the tour finds the authors cruising the mid-northeastern parts of the U.S. in search of good people, good readings/performances, and greater artistic motivations...and potentially good fishing, with little to no risk of death to either.
Emji Saint Spero is a transqueer writer, performer, and pervert living in Los Angeles. They are curious about the potential of creative intimacies to queer the familiar, mapping the boundaries of collective engagement. Their practice: a series of approaches. Through movement, documentation, personal ephemera, and collaborative performance they seek to find embodied modes of connection with unacknowledged spaces of the urban landscape. Saint Spero is co-founder of the Oakland-based small press and queer poetry cult, Timeless, Infinite Light, co-developmental editor for We Both Laughed in Pleasure: The Selected Diaries of Lou Sullivan, the author of almost any shit will do, and they just released their new book, disgust.
Jeremy Kennedy (b. 01.01.1980) has been creating and exhibiting art and ideas in both community and academic settings since the late 1990s. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2009, the largely self-taught artist spent over a decade living and working in Bloomington, Indiana. Their pieces and projects have been featured in publications and journals internationally, and in galleries, streets, backyards, and basements across the U.S. Kennedy is an active sound-maker, co-founder, playwright, and reluctant performer with P/Sicho Street Theater Company. They are the author of A Gamble in this Dress, Free Flyer (Volume One), NOTE TO SEA, was a contributing essayist/editor of Cry List, and is a founding editor of the artbook/poetry imprint Rebel Hands Press.
:: About Our New Books ::
disgust by Emji Saint Spero (Nomadic Press, 2021)
disgust is an epic, fragmented poem born of a week-long performance. Debased, abject, and perfectly problematic, it asks us to dissect the ways in which we are othered and the ways we are complicit in our own objectification. With foreword by Brontez Purnell.
A Gamble in this Dress by jeremy kennedy (Rebel Hands Press, 2021)
A collection of recent works and non-excerpts from the forthcoming romance novel The Dark Villa, featuring a clever hit job / foreword by Roz Naimi, plus an interminably synchronous soundtrack.
folie à deux (à la table bleue) by jeremy kennedy + emji saint spero (Rebel Hands Press, 2021)
Another thing that doesn’t make any sense. folie à deux (à la table bleue) is a pre-litigation, pocket-depo-stye chapbook / no-wave noir. A post-experiential account of the matter at hand. Includes admissible evidence, and of course, blood.
